Nazareth College is committed to providing all students with a comprehensive Religious Education program from Year 7 through to Year 12. Religious Education is a core curriculum study at every year level, as we strive to lead our students to love Jesus Christ and follow His way of life.
A structured curriculum, compliant with Catholic Education Office (CEO) standards and comparable to Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS), is taught from Year 7 to Year 10 and is based upon the text “To Know, Worship and Love”. The curriculum is structured around five content strands: Scripture and Jesus; Church and Community; God, Religion and Life; Prayer, Liturgy and Sacraments; and Morality and Justice. These five strands are explored through a broad range of topics and contexts relevant to Catholicism in today’s world, allowing students to apply their religious learning to everyday-life situations.
In Years 11 and 12, students undertake Text and Traditions, and Religion and Society, with the option of studying Unit 3 and 4 of Text and Traditions as part of their VCE elective studies. These units further equip students with a strong sense of how to be authentic Christian witnesses in the modern world.
There are many opportunities for reflection and exploring one’s faith at all year levels within the College community, through unit work and also through class Masses and Liturgies.
